Safety data: |
It contains no carcinogenic solvents, is water based. For more details, please read the Safety Data Sheet of the product. |
2. Data on the operation of the product
Which problems are solved by the product and in which ways: |
During the construction of coarse and fine plaster (marble mortar) for indoors and outdoors, most technicians are interested in hardness as the only criterion of resistance. However, since the plaster, the bricks and the cement support are expanded with different expansion coefficient each, the plaster cracks and are generated capillary vessels, which in the entrance of moisture and frost initiate the erosion of the plaster immediately after its manufacture. Sovaplex DS comes to solve this problem, as it is 100% acrylic, it has great elasticity and waterproofness, is not damaged by alkalis of the wall neither is aging in time as the rubber emulsions, while not hydrolyzed by moisture such as resins in powder formula PVAc. |
Operating principle and way of action: |
The resin, as polymerized (“laminated”) due to contact with air, is creating a waterproof elastic mass which attaches great consistency and adhesiveness in plaster and reduces the creation of pores during its drying. The result is a waterproof construction with high mechanical resistance, cohesion, elasticity and high waterproofness. |
Benefits: |
The plaster and the marble mortar containing Sovaplex DS have consistency, elasticity, waterproofness, do no crack when drying, do not break in the time because of contractions-expansions without flaws, adhere excellent on the bricks, on concrete, at an earlier layer of plaster or any other surface implemented, even in earthy and rocky and vertical surfacesς. |
Advantages over other methods: |
1. Compared with the lime and other resins or rubber emulsions Sovaplex DS excels both waterproofness and elasticity and in that it does not age in time, is not hydrolyzed, nor damaged by the alkali cement. |
Comparison with other materials of WINWET family: |
Compared to Betoplex it has higher adhesiveness and coagulates more quickly, so it is used for plastering on vertical or inverted surfaces and Betoplex is mainly used for cement mortar on horizontal surfaces. |

3. Application of the product
Necessary equipment for the application: | For the application of the resin you should have at your disposal:
|
Protection of adjacent surfaces: |
Because when it is dried on marble, tiles, metals, etc. surfaces, it is hardly cleaned protect such surfaces with nylon or newspapers. |
Dilution: |
1-to-1 in water, not undiluted, in order not to create aggregations (blobs) when dropped into the blend of the plaster. Then gradually start to put the product in barrels, once you have spilled the cement, the water and the other materials to make the mud as thick as needed. |
Weather conditions during the application: |
On cloudy or sunny weather, cold or heat the end result will be exactly the same. The sun and the heat just accelerate the polymerization and waterproofing. If there is a forecast for rain by the National Meteorological Service, the application should be deferred. |
Lower polymerization temperature: |
3οC. If the temperature falls below 3οC before the polymerization is complete, the water begins to freeze and the same happens to the special penetrators containing the resin, thus losing its coherence and waterproofness. Therefore, you should avoid the application of the resin when it is very cold. |
Drying time: |
Although the plaster and the marble mortar need several days to dry thoroughly, the resin which is an admixture in it is fully waterproofed when polymerized, so it dries up. |
Completion time of polymerization: |
4 days or less. During the hot and dry days of summer the polymerization lasts 24 hours. |
Paintability after the application: |
The marble mortar containing Sovaplex can be painted if primed first with Betostal F/18. |
Paintability with paints admixture: |
There is the possibility that the plaster or the marble mortar to be tinted with paint admixture. For more information please click here. |

4. Resistances of the applied product
Resistance to expansions and contractions, vibrations and earthquakes: |
Very good. The polymerized resin within the mass does not lose its shape nor is torn due to the movement and the internal frictions caused by such phenomena. |
Resistance to shocks and frictions: | Very good. |
Behavior in acid and alkaline environment: |
The polymerized resin is not attacked by the alkaline environment which create for example the aggregates nor by the acid environment caused by weather conditions, plant roots etc. |
Resistance to temperature changes: |
Thanks to its elasticity the polymerized resin withstands sudden temperature changes. |
Resistance to extreme temperatures: |
Excellent, even at high heat and freezing cold conditions as those that occur only in certain areas of Northern Greece as far as Greece is concerned. |
Resistance to solar ultraviolet radiation: |
Very good, though this property is not important, since normally the particular resin because of its use is covered and not exposed to sunlight (except in the case of visible and unpainted plaster). |
Resistance to constant contact with water or moist soil or other form of moisture: |
After its polymerization the resin does not dissolve in water, but if left in continuous contact with water or humidity for several weeks it is likely to begin to emulsify. In practice, however, this possibility does not exist, because the plaster in which participates Sovaplex DS, when dried, is covered by another resin of the Winwet family, e.g. Betostal F/18 or Betostal SLN, which does not emulsify. |
Resistance to positive pressure: | High |
Resistance to negative pressure: |
High, thanks to the high adhesiveness of the plaster containing Sovaplex DS. That is why it is even more necessary in the plastering in basements where the exterior walls are not sealed well from filling and it is likely for moisture to pass through. |
Lifetime: |
Unlimited. The polymerized resin does not lose its properties over time, firstly because the material does not age (is not dried nor decomposed) and has high elasticity (does not lose its shape nor is torn with expansions and contractions) and secondly because in the pores it is completely protected from the sun, the weather conditions and mechanical damages. |
5. Natural properties of the product
Product form before its application: | Milky thin liquid. |
Product form after its application and polymerization: | Single transparent, colorless, waterproof cohesive elastic mass diffused into the plaster or the marble mortar. |
Elasticity: | Very good. |
Adhesiveness: | Very good. |
Air permeability and vapor permeability: | Yes, it allows transpiration, because the polymerized resin has such a molecular structure that does not allow the passage of water but allows the passage of air and water vapor between its molecules. This ensures the following key benefits: 1. The building is well ventilated and living in it is healthy and pleasant, because there is no smell (“musty”) or oxygen deficiency causing headaches, sleepiness, decreased performance, etc. 2. The tendency to form vapor condensation (droplets) and mold on the ceilings and walls is not deteriorated. 3. Thanks to adequate ventilation is avoided the gradual carbonization and weakening of the concrete that can occur when there is an increased concentration of CO2 in the building because of poor ventilation. |
Filling capacity of cavities and cracks: | Excellent, without leaving any gaps, without much effort from the technician (very good workability). |
Solubility in water: | Yes. The resin must be dissolved in water before being added to the other ingredients of the plaster. |
Waterproofness: | Very good. To ensure absolute waterproofness of the plaster or the marble mortar, after drying, there should be a coating with a roller or spraying, with primer Betostal F/18, no matter if it is going to be painted or not. |
Hydrophocity and oleophobicity: | No. In order to be achieved hydrophobic and oleophobic surface of the plaster (painted or not-painted) or the marble mortar further of simple waterproofness, which is ensured by the penetrating Betostal F/18, it is required a coating with Contraqua 7/50. |
